“I don’t really care about LeBron James’ Utah Jazz comments”: Donovan Mitchell defiant when asked about the Lakers star’s joke about his franchise during the 2021 NBA All-Star draft
Donovan Mitchell will be on Team Durant in tonight’s festivities, and we have good reason to believe that he’ll go off against Team LeBron.
If the Spida is anything like Michael Jordan, he will have taken LeBron’s comments about the Utah Jazz personally. During the All-Star Draft for this year, James and KD had left Donovan and Gobert till the very last.
When Charles Barkley asked about what all this Jazz slander was about, LeBron made a proper joke out of it. He talked about how he ‘never played with Utah Jazz’ on video games even as kids. Durant was himself smiling all the time.
James joins Shaquille O’Neal in the ranks of all-time greats who’ve taken a verbal dump on the Utah Jazz this season. Shaq had earlier goaded Donovan and Rudy Gobert at the start of the season, calling them both overrated.
Donovan Mitchell has no love lost with LeBron James, or so it seems
Mitchell and Gobert were both members of Team Giannis in the 2020 NBA All-Star Game. If James had had his way, he would’ve chosen neither of them probably. But as things turned out in the draft, it seems he’s now stuck with Rudy Gobert.
Speaking to members of the press ahead of today’s All-Star Game, Donovan minced no words:
“I don’t want to be rude but I really don’t care….people have been talking s*** about me for a while…we’re not doing this to seek the approval of him.”

Donovan may have perceived being the final guard pick as an insult, as he rightly should. Although he may not have the gaudy stats of Zach LaVine, who was picked ahead of him, he’s been the leader of the best team in the NBA so far. He has every right to feel slighted by James, and we hope he pays it back on court.
