“Stephen Curry could join the Lakers”: Kendrick Perkins suggests the Warriors star could team up with LeBron James, much to the amazement of Paul Pierce
Kendrick Perkins wanted to land a cat among the pigeons, so he chose the most preposterous trade idea possible – Stephen Curry to the Lakers.
Perkins has been a hot-take artist ever since joining ESPN as a basketball analyst. There is often some competition between him and Paul Pierce about who the worst analyst is on the world’s largest sports network.
Perkins usually takes the cake, as Pierce has fewer opportunities to establish his credentials despite his best efforts. Pierce tried his best yesterday, speaking about the Sixers’ ‘loss’ to the Spurs. But Perkins got back in the game with a ridiculous take of his own today.
It has indeed been a while since Perkins came up with a preposterous ‘take’ of his own. Perhaps he was feeling the need to get back in the airwaves and into controversy, judging from his statements yesterday.
Kendrick Perkins suggests that Stephen Curry could team up with LeBron James in LA
Speaking about the midseason trades that the Warriors could make to better the team, Perkins inadvertently went off on a tangent. He landed straight into hot water with his next take:
“Maybe they could trade Andrew Wiggins and get back Victor Oladipo to show Steph they’re going to surround him. They’re going to get better not just for this year but for next year so that he can’t sign his contract this offseason season.”
“You can’t lock him in because, with Steph not signing his contract extension – yes, I get it – he’s gonna get more money but there’s no guarantee.”
“And we saw all the joy we saw the laughter in the All-Star Game between him and LeBron James. Fist-bumping and high-fiving. Hey, look. I’m telling you, I’m just saying. Anything can happen when it comes to the NBA.”
Perkins is somebody who’s played against the Warriors at the absolute peak of their powers. He should know better than suggesting that a Warriors life like Stephen Curry would leave for another team. But such is the hot-take industry today that this is what gets rewarded with reactions and clicks.
