“My goal is to own an NBA team”: LeBron James reveals his ultimate aim after becoming a partner with Fenway Sports Group and finishing his Lakers career
LeBron James led the Lakers to a 137-121 win with his second triple-double of the back-to-back. He spoke about his post-playing aims in the presser.
LeBron is already recognized as a successful serial investor. The GOAT candidate has built a fortune to the tune of nearly $500 million over the course of an 18-year NBA career.
James has quite a few successful investments thus far. He owns a significant stake in the pizza chain Blaze Pizzas. His initial $1 million investment was worth over $25m in 2017. His investment in Liverpool FC is also worth 12 times his initial contribution in 2011.
The Lakers star was appointed as a partner in Fenway Sports Group along with Maverick Carter. He addressed this historical development with some comments in yesterday’s post-game presser.
LeBron James speaks about his aims after his retirement from the NBA
The Lakers star made it clear that he wants to become the owner of an NBA team like Michael Jordan and Grant Hill, among others:
“That is my goal. My goal is to own an NBA franchise. It’ll be sooner than later.”
One of the few things stopping LeBron from becoming a part-owner already is his playing career. The 4-time NBA champion cannot own a stake in an NBA team while already playing.
LeBron James just reiterated that he wants to own an NBA franchise after he retires: “That is my goal. My goal is to own an NBA franchise. It’ll be sooner than later.”

LeBron would undoubtedly raise the profile of whichever team he buys a stake in. He is by far the most popular active NBA player in the league today, and with good reason. James has been the standard-bearer of the league for nearly the entirety of his career.
James also has a billion-dollar lifetime contract with Nike, which will aid his investment in a team. You can bet anything you own that he’ll be buying a small-market team and will try to turn it around.
