Kawhi Leonard cracked an epic dad joke on the Clippers’ broadcast last night: “Why did the mushroom go to the party? Because he’s a fun-gi”

Kawhi Leonard continues to add more evidence to the Fun Guy files. His joke on an Instagram live session yesterday illustrated just that.

The Clippers star has cultivated an image as one of the most relatable NBA players out there. Kawhi’s inclination to stay out of the public eye and his apparent discomfort around cameras is something that many introverts know inside out.

Another thing that endears him to basketball fans is his complete lack of questionable comments. In fact, Kawhi has done his best to feed the ‘Kawhi is a Robot’ trope with a few of his antics. It’s amazing to have a superstar playing along with his own public image and not caring about looking dorky.

One of my favorite moments from Leonard’s career is when he mocks his own stop-start laugh from his first Raptors press conference during their championship celebrations in Toronto.

Allow me to introduce you to one of the better Kawhi Leonard videos out there. You may not exactly agree with my description when I call him hilarious, but you’ll at least see why.

Nothing to see here, except one fun guy explaining how much of a fun guy that fungi like mushrooms can be. Pardon me for all these puns, but I think you see my point about Kawhi acting like a dork in these parts.

It’s really tempting to think and believe that Kawhi genuinely acts in the same comical fashion as a father. His tonality and facial expression while delivering the glib punchline of the joke is comedic gold.

The Klaw has embraced his ‘fun guy’ image on a commercial scale as well. While New Balance could have done a much, MUCH better job marketing their best player, they still had ‘Fun guy’ t-shirts and other merchandise in stores periodically, and with damn good reason.
