Black has confirmed during a Twitch stream that budget cuts were the real reason for his departure from the promotion. One has to ask though, if the WWE were going to release Black, why insert him on TV anyway? Well it seems that it has something to do with miscommunication.
WWE Creative were told to stop making pitches for Aleister Black
According to Fightful Select, the WWE management had no long-term plans for the Aleister Black-Big E program. In fact, that people associated with formulating the SmackDown storyline were unaware of WWE’s plans to release Aleister Black.
However, they were informed not to make anymore pitches for Black although no specific reason was given for it.
Black joined the WWE back in 2016. He made his televised in-ring debut at NXT TakeOver: Orlando on 1 April, defeating Andrade. Black went on to become NXT Champion a couple of years later beating Andrade at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans on 7 April 2018.
He held the title for 108 days before dropping it to Johnny Gargano.
Black joined the main roster in 2019 and had an impressive start. However, inconsistent booking hurt his standing. With his release now, more NXT Champions have left the company than those who have gone on to become WWE Champions.
