Michael Porter Jr ties NBA playoff record for most 3-pointers in a quarter: Nuggets’ young star takes over in first quarter vs Damian Lillard and co, ties Antoine Walker’s 19-year-record

Michael Porter Jr caught fire today in the first quarter for the Nuggets. The #15 pick in the 2018 NBA draft dropped 6 3-pointers in the period.

Portland came out in the first quarter looking to score fast and furiously. They were largely able to achieve their target in these terms, notching up 33 points in the first period. They could’ve had a handsome lead if not for Michael Porter Jr and his hot shooting to start the game off.

There isn’t much that the Blazers could’ve done to stop Porter Jr’s onslaught. The man stands at 6’10” and his high release point makes his shot practically unblockable.

Moreover, the Blazers tried to guard him with Norman Powell, who’s much shorter than an NBA-average small forward. As a result, Porter Jr got going early in the game through his spot-up shooting.

Porter Jr tallied a stupendous 6 3-pointers on 7 attempts in the first period. He really seemed ready to go toe-to-toe with Dame in individual scoring terms in the first half.

In making his 6 3-pointers to start the game off, Porter Jr got off to one of the hottest starts in playoff history. Given that it’s the anniversary of Michael Jordan’s shrug after making 6 3s in a half against the Blazers. 4th of June is really a bad date for Portland NBA fans, isn’t it?

Porter Jr is tied with Dame and Antoine Walker for most 3-pointers made in a single playoff quarter. Lillard achieved this feat in this very playoff series. In fact, he put these stats up in his stupendous Game 5 performance with 12 3-pointers.
