“This ‘9 Hoops’ game needs to be in the All-Star Weekend”: When Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley participated in a shooting contest on a Japanese game show
Back when legends Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley participated in a unique shooting contest at a Japanese game show.
Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley are three of the greatest and toughest players of all time. All three of them completely revolutionised how the sport is played.
Because of their illustrious resumes and impressive style of play, these superstars had a massive fan-following. Amongst the three of them, they share 7 MVPs, 43 All-Star appearances, 37 All-NBA selections and a whopping 89,692 points.
Another common thing between these three stars was that they made an appearance on the Japanese game show “Pro Sportsman No. 1” and took part in one of the most unique shooting mini-game.
While Jordan has made an appearance on this show twice, in 1996 and 2000, Kobe and Chuck have participated in it once each, 1998 and 1996 respectively.
Jordan, Bryant and Barkley try their hand at the famous Japanese game show’s shooting event – “9 Hoops”
The game “9 Hoops” seems pretty easy. The set-up includes three rows of three hoops, each lined up at a different height. Participants get 12 attempts, with the aim to shoot the ball in all of the 9 hoops. Seems easy, right?
While having fun with it, in Barkley’s case, he managed to convert only 4 of his attempts. On the other hand, Jordan being Jordan, the Chicago Bulls superstar knocked down a bucket in all nine hoops.
In 1998, as a part of a promotional tour for Adidas, the Black Mamba also took on the famous “9 Hoop” game. The only difference this time, the hoops moved around at different heights to make it tougher. Despite being known as one of the most clutch shooters in the league, Bean came up only one bucket short.
This famous and entertaining shooting contest could, in all honesty, be a great addition to the NBA’s All-Star Weekend. It will be fun to see some of the league’s top shooters go at it and take on this fairly difficult basketball course. Surely, it will be entertaining for the spectators.
