“Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley have ‘gone fishin’”: The NBAonTNT crew relegates LeBron James to his iconic ‘Banana Boat’ while promoting Space Jam 2
Ahead of Space Jam 2, NBAonTNT had Michael Jordan on a yacht in their gone fishin segment while LeBron James was on a ‘Banana Boat’.
With LeBron James and the Looney Tunes hitting the silver screens in less than 3 weeks time, the NBAonTNT crew did some promotional work for Space Jam: A New Legacy. The movie will be a sequel to Michael Jordan’s 1996 original movie, Space Jam, which saw the Bulls legend team up with Bugs Bunny and the lot to take on the Monstars.
A similar concept in terms of the villains, is approached in this movie as well. NBA stars such as Damian Lillard and Klay Thompson will suit up as LeBron James’s adversaries and look to make sure that Don Cheadle’s character, Al-G Rhythm, doesn’t lose a hold of James’s son.
In the buildup to the July 16 release, several promotional works have been in play. Everything from new LeBron 18 shoe drops to the NBAonTNT crew being asked to incorporate several segments of theirs into promos.

Charles Barkley was actually in 1996’s Space Jam and fast-forward 25 years later, he’s doing promo for the 2021 LeBron James-led Space Jam sequel. A popular segment on NBAonTNT for a while now has been ‘Gone Fishin’. This is usually done for teams who have been eliminated from the postseason and are hence, on vacation and ‘fishin’.

Since Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, and the lot have hung up their Warner Bros sneakers decades ago, they’ve technically ‘gone fishin’. The graphic which they used showed Jordan and the 90s legends on a yacht while LeBron James, Bugs Bunny, Lola Bunny, and Daffy Duck were on James’s Banana Boat.
The Banana Boat graphic with those 4 is obviously a reference to the real banana shaped boat the ‘King’ was on alongside NBA stars Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul.
