Nick Kyrgios slams the Chair Umpire during doubles match at the Australian Open

Nick Kyrgios turned up to play doubles at the Australian Open today, a day before his all important third round clash with childhood hero Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Kyrgios and his partner Matt Reid were playing their opening round against the American pairing of Nicholas Monroe and John-Patrick Smith, A controversy broke out in the second game of the first set, with Kyrgios serving.

Reid had hit a winner which just about kissed the line to win the first point of the game. The American duo deliberated for a while and then went in for the challenge, infuriating Kyrgios, who felt that the opponents had taken too long before opting for the challenge.

“You can’t let them challenge that late. It’s fing bulls,” Kyrgios said, fuming at the chair umpire.

The Hawkeye review showed that the ball was well in and the Aussie pair got the point, but Kyrgios was clearly flustered, probably due to the heat that he was forced to play in.

Against Troicki, we came across this mature Kyrgios who wasn’t flustered by the numerous breaks that his match was filled with, once with that guy making weird noises, then with the technical difficulties and ultimately by that helicopter hovering above the court.

But you can’t keep Kyrgios quiet on the court for two days, can you?

Also, a lot of people questioned the idea behind playing doubles in the scorching Melbourne heat a day before his 3rd round, while others appreciated him for playing with his partner and braving the Melbourne Heat.
