Edge feels Nakamura should win the Royal Rumble

The WWE Hall of Famer was recently interviewed by Sports Illustrated where he had a say on who should win the men’s Royal Rumble match.

Edge stated that he would love the WWE Officials give the nod to Shinsuke Nakamura as he believes “The King Of Strong Style” will tear down the house alongside AJ Styles. Edge also believes that Wrestlemania main events are not only for part-timers and Nakamura’s win could prove that. He said:

“That’s why I’d like to see Nakamura win the Rumble,” said Edge. “He and AJ would have an amazing match, and that would give a different flavor to WrestleMania.”

“I think it would be awesome,“Nakamura has that kind of Jeff Hardy intangible, and then you add in the history with him and AJ.” I don’t think main-eventing WrestleMania is just for part-time talent, and I think AJ will prove that.”

Edge also went on to say that he is a huge fan of the highly charismatic star and heaped praise on him. He stated:

“I love Nakamura, but it’s a transition for anybody who comes to WWE. You start him off with Sami at NXT, and talk about having the ultimate meal set for you: you get this amazing selling baby face and get to have this spectacular match.”

Nakamura heads into the Rumble as one of the favourites alongside several names such as the likes of Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan and John Cena.

The Japanese star’s dominant run in the NXT was not translated over to the main roster after recurring defeats to Jinder Mahal haltered his momentum.

Nakamura is rumoured to win the Rumble and face rival AJ Styles for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania in an attempt to replicate their acclaimed classic at Wrestling Kingdom 10.

Edge, himself is a royal rumble winner after winning the event as a surprise entrant in 2010 and has been a vocal enthusiast for the business ever since his unfortunate retirement due to spinal stenosis in 2011.

The 2018 Royal Rumble is slated to be held at the Wells Fargo center in Philadelphia on 29 January 2018.
