Mumbai Indians are worried about Keiron Pollard

Mumbai Indians are in a spot of bother in this year’s IPL table and it’s going from bad to worse for the defending champions.

They have lost five of their six matches, and it can be easily said that Mumbai Indians’ coach Mahela Jayawardene and their captain Rohit Sharma are both under massive pressure.

The most humiliating defeat of all came last night, when Mumbai Indians fell way short in chasing an ordinary total of 118 at Wankhede Stadium against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

They were all out for just 87 in 19th over in front of packed home support, which makes this defeat more opprobrious.

The sword is likely to fall on West Indian All rounder Kieron Pollard who has scored just 63 runs in 6 matches with zero wickets.

Pollard was sensational in Mumbai’s surge to their first IPL title in 2013 when he scored 420 runs and took 10 wickets in 18 matches. But Pollard’s performances this year has been abysmal and Jayawardene has to take a tough call on the matter.

In an interview with Times Now, Mahela also stressed on the fact that team management should back their players in this tough time but senior players need to perform.

“Yes, Kieron has been struggling. But we trust him within the system. You’ve got to trust your players. You can’t keep chopping and changing just because one doesn’t fire. You’ve got to keep the structure (of the team),” Jayawardene said.

Mumbai Indians are at bottom of the table and coach Mahela Jayawardene feels senior players of the team should take more responsibility, but at the same time they cannot let their players fail miserably and make a mockery of it.

“Yes, eventually, as a coach, I’ll have to take a call. But it’s too early right now. I need at least 24 hours to reflect on what happened today. I can’t be too emotional about it” he said.
