Vince Carter Reveals Reason Why Anthony Davis Remains Reluctant to Take Reins of Lakers from LeBron James
By what it seems, good times cannot sustain for too long when it comes to the Lakers. Having won five of their last six games, the purple and gold suffered an embarrassing loss at home against the Pacers, blowing a comfortable seventeen-point lead in the fourth quarter.
The only thing constant for the Lakers this season has been Anthony Davis, who has been filling the stat sheet with humungous numbers. The former champion has been putting up a show on both ends of the floor, leading his team in points, rebounds, steals, blocks, and free throws made.
Anthony Davis over the last 6 games:
37 PTS, 18 REB, 2 AST, 60% FG
38 PTS, 16 REB, 4 BLK, 62% FG
30 PTS, 18 REB, 3 STL, 63% FG
37 PTS, 21 REB, 5 BLK, 64% FG
25 PTS, 15 REB, 3 BLK, 77% FG

During LeBron James’ recent injury, AD would put on a show, averaging 32.5 PPG, 15.2 RPG, and 2.3 BPG, shooting an impressive 59.8% from the field. In the 6-games that LBJ was absent, the Lakers went 3-3. Nevertheless, many believe The Brow is still reluctant to take the reigns of the Lakers.
Recently, NBA veteran Vince Carter revealed what stopped Davis from taking the reigns of the Lakers from James.
Vince Carter reveals why Anthony Davis hesitates to take the reigns from LeBron James.
There is no doubt that AD is the current best player on the Lakers, given the staggering numbers he’s been putting up. The 6ft 10″ forward is looking to reclaim his position as a top 5 player in the league. However, the eight-time All-Star continues to hesitate to take leadership responsibilities.
According to former NBA player turned ESPN analyst Vince Carter, Davis finds it disrespectful to take the reigns from King James, given his aura and accomplishments.
“I think it’s a respect thing,” said Vinsanity. “He respects who and what LeBron James has done in the game, but at the same time, you are allowed to and you should, nothing wrong with you respecting him, but when that guy that you respect is now trying to give you the reins and wants you to take over and be the go-to guy and he can complement you, you should take that as an honor and run with it.”

Certainly some words of wisdom from Carter, who is one of the most revered players in the NBA, having played 22 seasons.
Anthony Davis needs to stay healthy.
In order for AD to take leadership responsibilities, the eight-time All-Star has to maintain high durability. Over the two seasons, the former Pelicans superstar has spent more time in ‘street clothes’ over the purple and gold uniform.
When healthy, Davis ranks among the top tier of big men in the league that include the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, and Joel Embiid.
