Strangulation and domestic assault are the charges against Joseph. As per the press release, police were called to a residence in south Lincoln at 1:54 pm on Monday. After the investigation was finished, Joseph, 54, was detained at a different location on suspicion of third-degree domestic assault and strangulation.
He was kept in the county jail of Lancaster. “I was made aware of the charges against Coach Joseph and given the nature of the allegations and based on University policy he has been placed on administrative leave,” said Nebraska’s athletic director Trev Albert said in a statement.
Joseph, who joined Nebraska after leaving LSU, served as the interim head coach for the Huskers and had a 3-6 record in that capacity.
Mickey Joseph has had troubles with the law in the past
From 1988 to 1991, Joseph played quarterback for the Cornhuskers and had several run-ins with the law. He was detained in September 1990 on suspicion of committing criminal mischief for allegedly trying to break into his girlfriend’s apartment while allegedly breaking an exterior window and damaging an interior window.

The girlfriend’s roommate reportedly told police that there had been a domestic dispute going on for several hours prior to the incident. Due to witnesses who refused to cooperate, no charges were brought in that case.
In 1989, Joseph was also detained in Lincoln on suspicion of drunk driving, which resulted in a one-game suspension. During his 25-year coaching career, Joseph has worked with college teams at every level.
In five years at LSU, he developed four receivers who were picked in the first two rounds of the NFL draft, earning him a spot among the top 25 recruiters in the country in 2019.
