Nick Kyrgios imitates Roger Federer’s serve-action during the match
The Aussie tennis star is currently playing the Queen’s Club Championships.
Nick Kyrgios often makes headlines for his on-field behaviour and bold statements. However, this time, he made news as he shed his usual-self and imitated one of the greatest tennis stars, Roger Federer during the round-of-16 match at the Queen’s Club Championships.
Nick Kyrgios defeated England’s Kyle Edmund 7-6, 6-7, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament, where he will meet Spain’s Feliciano Lopez. But he did something which caught the viewers’ attention in the first set of the match.
During the serve, he imitated Roger Federer’s action while he was leading 40-0 with score at 2-2. However, it resulted in a double-fault. Although, that didn’t stop Kyrgios, as he rallied 32 aces while mimicking Federer’s serve throughout the match.
Kyrgios’ almost-perfect imitation of Roger Federer’s service-action left some of the tennis greats almost flabbergasted. The former women’s world no. 1 Tracey Austin could hardly believe that Kyrgios managed 32 aces while imitating someone else’s serve.
“I’ve never seen this. It actually looked like an exhibition,” Austin said on the Tennis Channel. “When you’ve got such a big serve, why try to copy Roger’s?” she added.
While Kyrgios won the game in three sets, he also came under scrutiny for swearing during the match. BBC, who were broadcasting the match, had to apologise for Kyrgios’ antics.
“Fine. I don’t care,” Kyrgios said when the reporter pointed it out.
Kyrgios pressed the reporter in an outburst later. “Do you swear? No, do you swear? Yes or no? Yes or no? Do you swear? Do you swear? Okay, great. Good question.”
