WWE Hall of Famer Explains Why UFC WWE Merger Could Spell Doom for the Talent – “I Would Be Concerned”
Vince McMahon made his return to the WWE with the intention of facilitating the sale of the promotion. This was achieved recently when the promotion was sold to Endeavor. With this deal, the WWE and UFC are now part of the same organization. Fans are excited to see what this means for the future of both the companies. However, WWE Hall of Famer, Jim Ross, isn’t sure that this is the best of times to be a WWE talent.
Good Ol JR claimed that he would be nervous for his spot if he was working with the WWE post the merger. He explained how this would impact future negotiations with the talent down the line and why they should be worried as well.
Jim Ross explains why UFC WWE merger could spell doom for the talent
Jim Ross took to his “Grilling JR” podcast, to talk on the future of WWE, post their merger with the UFC. He claimed that he would be concerned if he was a talent whose spot wasn’t secure and their recent body of work was not good.
He also added that future layoffs were inevitable.
“I do think there will be some layoffs,” JR said. “I just think it’s inevitable with this sort of transaction, where they go through and do a clean sweep of where the extra costs are so they can contribute more to their new bottom line.”
JR also spoke about the impact this would have on future renegotiations with talent. He believed that the result of this merger would be some talent not getting renewed and others getting a lower offer than desired.
However, despite all of this, he does not believe all of this is a bad thing. Instead, he just dubbed it “the nature of the beast,” claiming that this was common place in previous significant mergers between other companies.
