Three Years Before He Took the Eagles to Super Bowl LVII, Jalen Hurts Was Projected as a “Covid Insurance QB” by Adam Schefter

Counting Super Bowl rings is an old way of determining if an NFL player is truly great. However, in the modern day, statistics are playing a major role. Thanks to this, Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts is able to establish himself as one of the best in the league, even without a Super Bowl ring. Though three years before he had a record-shattering season, not everyone believed in his talent.

Hurts led his team to the Super Bowl last year, where they put up stiff resistance to the Chiefs led by Patrick Mahomes. The Eagles lost the game by only 3 points, showcasing how good the team, and its QB is. Though, when he was first drafted, not a lot of people believed Hurts could be the man he is today. Especially NFL analyst Adam Schefter, who referred to him as a “Covid backup”.

Jalen Hurts was drafted #53 overall by the Eagles in the 2020 draft. This was at a time when the Eagles already had a starting QB in Carson Wentz. Hurts’ selection came as a shock for many. Though Adam Schefter’s opinion later seemed to make a lot of sense for those who did not believe Hurts had a place in Philadelphia.

“Now in this day and age, I’ve had teams tell me it’s more important than ever to have a backup quarterback in this pandemic. We’re going to be playing next year, coronavirus is out there, COVID-19, what if your quarterback gets the virus? It’s an interesting situation here. I think there are more problems than ever before. And so I think teams are looking up to sure up the most important position in the sport. And that’s why the Eagles did it,” Schefter once said on ESPN.

Three years down the line, Schefter’s words are nothing but an ill-made opinion. With a Super Bowl appearance just three years after being drafted, Hurts has established himself as a threat to be reckoned with on the gridiron. While he may not have yet tasted the sweet joy of winning a Super Bowl ring, that eventuality should not be too far down the road.

For now, Hurts has to make sure he and his team are ready for this season. While they may still not be the absolute favorites this year, they are still strong contenders to win the Super Bowl. This means Hurts and the Eagles have to try extra hard to beat their opponents. Including facing the Chiefs in a regular season game, which will be the highlight of the season.

Hurts is leaving the Super Bowl loss behind him to face the future

Jalen Hurts is not thinking about the Super Bowl loss anymore. For him, the coming season is more important than regretting the decisions of his past. “Thinking about it holistically, last year is over,” Hurts told NFL.com. “Anything that we were able to do last year… nothing that’s been done prior will get us to where we want to be now.”

The Eagles may have lost a bit of their bite in the off-season, but they are still a dangerous team to contend with. Hurts will be looking to elevate this reputation into a far more ferocious one like they did last year with their winning streak. The goal will be to win the Super Bowl.
