Boasting A $9,000,000 Worth Car Collection, Michael Jordan Once Gave Up His $135,000 Ferrari To Scottie Pippen
After conquering the world of basketball, Michael Jordan effortlessly slid into his 3rd and final retirement from the NBA in 2003, to become a businessman. Thanks to his deal with Nike, within a couple of years, he became the richest basketball player, taking over Lakers legend, Magic Johnson. 20 years later, ‘His Airness’ is a multi-billionaire and the richest athlete in the world. With that, comes the luxuries that know no bounds. Take his car collection, for example, which was already worth over $5.5 million before adding a $3.5 million Hennessy Venom F5 Roadster recently. However, years before having a $9,000,000 worth garage, he had enough cars to give Scottie Pippen a Ferrari.
While playing for the Chicago Bulls, Jordan and Pippen were like siblings on and off the court. Like typical brothers, they wouldn’t hang out much with each other and had their sets of friends. However, they would be together with each other’s family at every festival or in any celebration or mourning. And so, gifts weren’t a rarity between the two.
When Michael Jordan gifted Scottie Pippen a Ferrari
During the Christmas week of 1997, a 5x NBA champ, Scottie Pippen had bought a diamond earring, which was a replica of the NBA championship trophy, as a gift for the 5x Finals MVP, Michael Jordan.
According to an article by Melissa Isaacson of ESPN, Jordan, who had planned to give Scottie a box of cigars by then, immediately changed his mind to give him his red Ferrari 550 Maranello.
You might have seen MJ driving that beauty in The Last Dance. That car is now worth at least $1,35,000.
Jordan and Scottie do not have any kind of relationship as of now
Since the release of The Last Dance in 2020, the relationship between Michael and Scottie has hit rock bottom. The latter, who always felt his career was overshadowed by Jordan’s, claimed his former teammate didn’t give him his due credit in the Netflix series.
Pippen came up with his own memoir in 2021, and while promoting it, he launched several cheap shots on Jordan and his greatness.
MJ might not have won a few of the 6 championships they won together if the Bulls didn’t get Scottie in 1987. However, Pippen having a legendary career would be a mere possibility if he played anywhere else but in Chicago, with the GOAT.
But, it seems Pippen, who recently saw his wife of 23 years get together with Mike’s son, Marcus, has made himself believe it for a fact that MJ wouldn’t achieve greatness without him. In fact, he believes MJ was horrible before teaming up with him.
