“Jimmy Butler Is Like Michael Jordan”: Dwyane Wade Gives Expert Analysis On How Maniacal The Two Former Bulls Are
Jimmy Butler had an exceptional performance throughout the recent Playoffs and Finals with the Miami Heat. He delivered an outstanding display in the Playoff series against the Milwaukee Bucks, scoring a career-high 56 points. This impressive feat can be attributed to his remarkable skills and offensive brilliance, which he maintained until the end of Miami’s championship campaign. Dwyane Wade, a former star of the Heat, also lauds Butler’s incredible play and recognizes shades of Michael Jordan in his approach to important games.
During the 2022-23 Playoffs, Butler maintained an average of 26.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists in 22 games. His mindset and playing style often draw comparisons to Michael Jordan, with fans noting the striking resemblance to His Airness. While some fans jokingly speculated that MJ and Butler might be related by blood, it is, of course, an unfounded claim.
Dwyane Wade thinks Jimmy Butler has many characteristics similar to Michael Jordan
Jimmy Butler shares a similar no-nonsense mentality with Michael Jordan, displaying a relentless drive on the court. When Butler focuses his mind on a specific opponent, he can inflict significant damage on the opposing team.
His remarkable 56-point performance against the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 4 of the Playoff series exemplifies this mindset. Dwyane Wade acknowledges that Jordan possessed a similar motivation in his game style, often wreaking havoc on teams he targeted.
During his conversation with Shannon Sharpe in Episode 84 of Club Shay Shay, Wade expressed high praise for Jimmy Butler and his approach to games. He also shared an intriguing incident involving Butler and coach Tom Thibodeau during the Chicago Bulls’ Playoff series against the New York Knicks. Wade revealed:
“Jimmy’s like Jordan, in a sense, he’s always looking for something to piss him off. So in the New York series, I was like ‘Oh he had Thibs. He’s all about Thibs.’ He hd amazing stuff about what Thibs did to him… It wasn’t about the Knicks, it’s about Thibs. So he can go to that level, where he can zone out and focus on one thing or somebody. And everyone can’t do this, he has that switch.”
Jimmy Butler employed his exceptional performance as a means to address the escalating tension between himself and his former coach, Tom Thibodeau, during their time together on the Bulls.
This echoes the competitive nature and drive displayed by Michael Jordan, who also had a fervent determination to prove himself against anyone who challenged or doubted his abilities in the NBA.
Michael Jordan once cooked a fake story to destroy LaBradford Smith in a game
Michael Jordan’s competitive nature sometimes led him to employ unique tactics to fuel his motivation. One such instance was when he fabricated a story about LaBradford Smith, the Washington Bullets guard after Smith scored a career-high 37 points against Jordan and the Bulls.
According to Jordan’s account, Smith approached him after the game and complimented his performance by saying, “Nice game, Mike.”
In response, Jordan used this encounter as fuel for the next game in the series. He unleashed his prowess and scored an impressive 47 points, leading the Bulls to a decisive victory.
However, it was later revealed that Smith never actually approached Jordan with those words. The story was entirely fabricated by MJ as a means to drive himself and enhance his performance for the subsequent game.
