Chase Elliott Insists on a Positive Outlook No Matter the Outcome at Daytona

For Chase Elliott, the make-or-break point is here. At Daytona, one of the most unpredictable tracks in the world, he would require nothing short of a certain result, a win, to save his season. So far, Elliott is winless, and as it stands, out of the playoffs. As a result, it’s pretty clear that nothing short of a win would be a good enough result for the #9 driver to salvage something, anything, out of this season, right?

Well, Elliott isn’t subscribing to that idea.

Because from the perspective of the Hendrick Motorsports star, things aren’t as bleak. He recently explained how, regardless of whether he wins at Daytona on Saturday or not, he is going to have a positive outlook on how the current season has been for him.

Chase Elliott will look at the positives, no matter the result at Daytona

Ahead of Saturday’s race at Daytona in which 17 drivers are looking to get a win to seal their spot in the playoffs, Chase Elliott being one of them, Elliott described how, no matter the result when the checkered flag drops, he will go home with positives. He said, as per Sportsnaut, “I think there are positives to be taken on both ends of the spectrum.”

“If we get in, it’s a great opportunity to race for a championship. If we don’t, there are things that can be improved upon, areas that maybe we wouldn’t have pushed in or tried if we were in the show, so I think there are things we can take from it, regardless.”

Having said that, Elliott claimed that they are going to go out into the race and “push really hard” considering they still have an opportunity and it’s not over yet.

Elliott might just have to hit the jackpot at Daytona

A few weeks ago, when Daytona still wasn’t the must-win scenario it is now, Elliott made some interesting comments on the nature of the racetrack. He said, “To show up there and be in a must-win situation is like going to Vegas and having to hit the nearest slot machine for the jackpot.”

But silly or not, Elliott may have to hit the jackpot after all, when the green flag drops on Saturday. He will be starting the race from 23rd place, which, given how races turn out at Daytona, may not be as big of a handicap as it looks on paper because on that racetrack, as much as it is a test of how skillful, talented, and composed a driver is, luck also plays a big part in who wins. In the case of Chase Elliott though, luck hasn’t exactly been on his side this season.

But could it finally change?
