‘I’m Starting To Realize That They Can Just Be A Little Skewed Here And There’: Justin Thomas Gives A Fair Reason Why His Putting Stats Have Been So Bad This Season

Justin Thomas gave a proper justification regarding why his putting stats have been not so good this season, according to a report. His last season’s struggles were quite relevant because he was winless throughout and couldn’t make it to the FedEx playoffs. Also, he had to get into the Ryder Cup as a captain’s pick. But in the fall season, Thomas started picking up his pace. 

But again, his putting stats for this season are not so good, and is ranked 149th on that list. He is losing two strokes per tournament, which isn’t a good situation. In the 2016–2017 season, he triumphed five times and received the Player Of The Year award. Also, according to his putting stats then, he was 43rd. Thus, his current situation isn’t as amazing as it was back then. Reflecting on his present condition, the golfer spoke during the Valspar Championship.

Justin Thomas Explains Why His Putting Stats Are Drowning 

Thomas had the perfect excuse for his not-so-goof putting.. He stated in an interview at Innisbrook,

“I think this early in the year it can be pretty skewed, I would say. Also, my first two events of the season were events where Shot Link isn’t even there, just due to the different golf courses.”

He also explained how his five good rounds were not considered in the stats and thus, his rank went on to drop.

“So I had my first in Palm Springs and Torrey Pines, I didn’t putt great on Sunday or Saturday, whatever it was, but, so I have five pretty good rounds that were completely taken out of stats. I think the majority of the time stats can be helpful, but I’m starting to realize that they can just be a little skewed here and there, especially this early in the season.”

He also shared that there were no strokes gained stats for the week of The American Express, where he shot 27-under to land at T3. Only a single round of the Pebble Beach tournament was counted and a total of 6 rounds were counted, whereas he played 21 in total. The worst rounds, like missing cuts at the Genesis Invitational and the Players, were considered. 

After all these, Thomas is still triggered to work on his putting and doesn’t value the statistics to measure his efficiency. He affirmed that he was doing the right thing, of course. It is to be seen if JT wins an event on the PGA Tour this season and ends his winless drought.
