CM Punk: Former WWE Champion files countersuit against former friend Colt Cabana
CM Punk: Former WWE Champion files countersuit against former friend Colt Cabana following their victory in a lawsuit filed against them by WWE physician Chris Amann.
CM Punk and Colt Cabana had been embroiled in a long fight against WWE physician Chris Amann until last year. Amann had sued them for defamation stemming from Punk’s appearance on Cabana’s Art of Wrestling podcast in November 2014. The duo won the case and finally put to rest the lawsuit filed against them. However, their days at the courthouse are far from over.

Colt Cabana filed a lawsuit in August 2018 against punk in the Circuit Court of Cook County in Illinois, alleging unpaid legal fees and a breach of contract. He has claimed that the two had a verbal agreement that Punk would take care of Cabana’s legal fees. However, he backed out after the two had a falling out. He has now asked the former WWE champion to reimburse him $200,000 in his personal legal costs plus additional damages.
CM Punk’s Response
In response, PWInsider have reported that CM Punk has filed a countersuit against his former friend. He has stated that he spent over $1.2 million on legal bills over the two-year period where The Loeb Firm defended himself and Cabana against Dr Chris Amann’s allegations.
Punk has alleged that Cabana did not contribute anything towards their “attorney’s fees and expenses incurred”. This is despite the podcast with Punk being streamed or downloaded up to 3 million times in just a week. Thus, making it the most financially successful podcast episode ever for him.

The major bone of contention in this case has been the idea that Cabana and Punk had a legal, binding contract based on a text message. So far, the presiding Judge has not agreed with Colton that the agreement would be binding under Illinois law. However, the court has not made a firm ruling in either direction yet.
More word on this story will be carried out once the details become clearer and more information becomes available.
