How Many Times Have RCB Qualified for Playoffs in the IPL?

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli is perhaps not perturbed with the fact that his side has not managed to win an IPL title in the 15 years of the league’s existence. He still considers his side as one of the biggest teams in the league, and had recently mentioned that fact that RCB have made it through to the playoffs in each of the previous three seasons as testament to the same.

Post his team’s win during their opening match of IPL 2023 against the Mumbai Indians, Kohli did not pay much heed to all the ever-growing criticisms with regard to RCB’s title drought. He specifically mentioned that after Chennai Super Kings and MI, it is RCB who have made it through to the playoffs the most number of times.

Even during one of the episodes of RCB Insider Show lately, Kohli explicitly stated that he takes pride in the franchise’s massive fan base, which would have not grown over the years if they were some ‘faltu’ (useless) team.

“This is big franchise pressure. Lot of people take it as all fun and games like ‘This team doesn’t win’. Come and play, when there are so many expectations. We’re a big team. Otherwise, why would we have so many so fans if we were some faltu team,” Kohli had remarked.

How Many Times Have RCB Qualified for Playoffs in the IPL?

Post playing a match-winning knock during the aforementioned match against MI at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Kohli had remarked, “I wanted to mention this for a while – after MI who have 5 titles and CSK who have 4, if I’m not wrong, we are the third team to have qualified the most times to the playoffs – 8 times.

Kohli was absolutely correct. Apart from making it to the final four/knock-out phase during the previous three seasons, RCB have also reached the playoffs in the year 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015, and 2016.

They had even made it to the grand finale during the 2009 edition (versus Deccan Chargers), 2011 edition (versus Chennai Super Kings), and the 2016 edition (versus Sunrisers Hyderabad), but unfortunately ended as runners-up in all the three occasions.

Can RCB Qualify For Playoffs in IPL 2023?

With five wins out of nine matches, RCB are tied along with three other teams in the points table with 10 points. With a Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.030, they are presently placed at the fifth spot in the table, below the Rajasthan Royals.

With the Gujarat Titans placed at the first spot with 12 points, no team is assured of a playoffs berth as yet in the season. Thus, RCB are well and truly alive with their chances of making it through to the next stage, with five league matches yet to play.
