Fakhar Zaman breaks into the top 20 in ODI rankings; Virat maintains number one spot

Pakistan’s opening batsman, Fakhar Zaman has soared into the top-20 rankings for the first time in his career in the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Player Rankings which were released on Sunday.

Fakhar Zaman has been making headlines with his batting during the series against Zimbabwe. He has scored a total of 515 runs in the recently concluded series, which also included a double century in the fourth ODI.

Fakhar has made a big leap to climb to the 16th position in the latest rankings. His knocks of 60, 117, 43, 210 and 85 in the 5 match series have helped him achieve this feat.  

During the 5th ODI in Bulawayo, the left-handed batsman registered his name in the history books for a new world record as he became the fastest batsman to score 1000 ODI runs. He took 18 innings to reach to the mark and broke West Indies legend Viv Richards’ record of 21 innings.

Imam-ul-Haq, Fakhar’s opening partner, has gained 121 places after an impressive show in the Zimbabwe series. Imam scored a total of 395 runs in the series and is now on the 43rd position in the rankings.

The list which is headed by Indian skipper, Virat Kohli also has another Pakistan batsman, Babar Zaman at the second spot. Babar Zaman who scored 184 runs in the series, is followed by England batsman, Joe Root. MS Dhoni maintains his 15th spot in the rankings.

Pakistan’s bowlers have also delivered inspirational performances in the 5-match series.

Shadab has moved from the 53rd position to the 31st position, whereas Faheem has jumped from the 149th position to the 79th position. In the bowling rankings, India’s Jasprit Bumrah heads the table followed by Afghanistan’s wrist spinner, Rashid Khan.

Looking into the other series between Bangladesh and West Indies, Bangladesh batsman Tamim has grabbed a career best 13th position after aggregating a total of 287 runs. All-rounder, Shakib is now on the 26th position after gaining three places and Mahmudullah has moved from 42nd to the 38th position.

For West-Indies, Chris Gayle is up to the 66th position from the 78th place and Shai Hope has gained 5 places to make it to the 45th position on the rankings.

The player rankings will be updated post the conclusion of the Sri Lanka vs South Africa ODI series.
