Ancient Cities are treasure troves if you know how to navigate and survive them. There are risks in these cities, sure, but the rewards are certainly worth the danger. However, preparation never hurts anyone, and you would be better off packing things that will help you against the mobs here.

Firstly, we will look at how you can find an Ancient City in the game and then move on to the supplies you should pack. Lastly, we will look at survival tips and what you can expect to find in these ancient cities. Let us start right away.

Finding an Ancient City in Minecraft

The first step to exploring an ancient city in Minecraft is to find it. One can find the Ancient City in the deep dark biome. These biomes are generated at the Bedrock level of the game. One can identify the entrance to these biomes by searching for skulk blocks that emanate sound. Although, if you cannot find it the traditional way, there are a couple of more things you can do.

  • Use the Locate command to find an Ancient City: If you are playing in Creative Mode for the fun of it and do not care about achievements then we recommend using a command to locate an ancient city. Use the /locate AncientCity command.
  • Explore the Y=-51 coordinates more: There is a lot of potential for you to find ancient city locations if you explore the coordinates we gave earlier. These cities also have a higher chance of spawning below mountainous regions.

Since the sound coming from the sculk sensors helps you identify if the ancient city is closer, it will be a big help if you turn on the subtitles. If you are still having trouble finding ancient cities, then we recommend checking this guide out.

Supplies You Will Need

Moving onto the things you should pack for this occasion, we recommend going with enchanted weapons if you have some. Although, anything you can get to take on a whole host of mobs in this region is welcome. You will need a variety of equipment to traverse this location. We recommend bringing these items.

  • Netherite or Diamond Armor: Mobs like the Warden do a ton of damage and have the potential to wipe out your whole HP. That is why having enchanted armor can be a huge help, just in case you end up encountering such enemies. Make sure you equip your armor with good enchantments.
  • Golden Apples and Carrots: These food items boost your health, increase your resistance, and heal you, making them crucial in a hostile environment.
  • A Bed: If you die inside, it will be helpful if your spawn point is near the entrance of an ancient city.
  • Ender Chest: An ender chest is going to be helpful in storing your loot and storing equipment you might need later on, especially enchanted weapons.
  • Shield:  Blocking attacks is going to be crucial for your survival. Therefore, going with a shield that can withstand mob attacks is a requirement in these areas. We also recommend enchanting your shield using Unbreaking or Mending.
  • Weapons: Bring powerful weapons. Enchant them with powerful enchantments such as Fire Aspect or Unbreaking. Carry a ranged weapon as well as a Trident if you can. Usually, an enchanted sword or an axe is the way to go for these areas.

Looting and Survival

If there is a high risk, then there is a guaranteed high reward. That being said, it is going to take all of your concentration to loot the structure and survive it. Let us see how you can survive the structure and what loot you can obtain.

  • Destroying sculk shriekers is a priority: These small blocks alert the Warden, which can cause a lot of problems if you are just here to loot. Therefore, destroying these blocks should be first priority.
  • Get rid of the Warden: This does not mean fighting and defeating it. You can get away from this mob as well, but it will take you a while because it can hear the sound of your movement. Carry invisibility potions or items that can distract the mob. Sneak around or place wool blocks everywhere so you can hide your steps.

Here is what you can find in the Ancient Cities should you explore them properly:

  • Sculk Catalysts
  • Armor Templates
  • Gold Ingots
  • Iron Ingots
  • Emeralds
  • Diamonds
  • Copper Ingots
  • Enchanted Books

There are a lot of resources you can get if you can explore the structure properly. These items will help you when trading with villagers.
