This is one of the best changes Mojang is incorporating but finding a smithing template is the most difficult. However, when you do find one, you can easily make more of it. So focus on picking up a template first. There are 17 total templates one can use in the latest update.

The standard one is using gold to change it into a netherite one. Just like everything else in the game, you can find these templates in different biomes, mob drops with varying drop rates. That is what this guide will be useful for. Let us look at their drop rates and where they potentially spawn.

All the Drop Rates and Locations for Templates

  1. Vex – Inside the loot chests  in Woodland mansion (50% drop rate)
  2. Ward – In Ancient city loot chests (5% drop rate)
  3. Wayfinder – You can find them by brushing suspicious gravel blocks in trail ruins structures (8.3% chance in Java Edition, 1.8% drop rate in Bedrock)
  4. Wild – You can find these in Jungle temple loot chests (33.3% drop chance)
  5. Coast – You can find these in the Shipwreck loot chests (16.7%drop rate)
  6. Dune – Search inside the Desert temple loot chests (14.3% rate)
  7. Eye – Search inside Stronghold loot chests (10% drop in altar chests, 100% drop in library chests)
  8. Host – Find these by brushing suspicious gravel blocks in trail ruins (8.3% drop chance in Java Edition, 1.8% drop in Bedrock)
  9. Raiser – Brushing suspicious blocks will get you this piece in trail ruins (same chances as Host)
  10. Silence – Search inside ancient city loot chests (1.2% drop chance)
  11. Snout – You can find these in Bastion remnant loot chests (8.3% chance of drop)
  12. Spire – Find these in End city loot chests (6.7% drop chances)
  13. Rib – Search and find these in Nether fortress chests (6.7% drop chances)
