'Blunt' Stephen Curry Points Out ‘Harsh Truth’ About Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and 2023 Warriors: “Gotta Move On”

Nearly eleven months after Stephen Curry and the Warriors hoisted the Larry O’Brien trophy, they were hit with a harsh reality check. The defending champions had a god-awful 2022-23 regular season, with the team going hot and cold way too frequently. The final blow to the season came last night, with LeBron James and the Lakers eliminating them in the 2nd round. At the end, Steph sat down and gave an honest assessment of the season and the team.

Playing Game 6 at the Crypto.Com Arena, the Warriors were handed a 122-101 defeat. The Lakers put forth a team effort to eliminate the defending champions, and they looked like the better team. The Warriors struggled to get shots to land and take care of the ball.

After the game, Steph sat down with the press, discussing playing against LeBron James again. He also reflected on the Warriors and their season.

Stephen Curry shares the moment he knew the 2023 Warriors were a bust

A true competitor never gives up, and tries to battle till the end, no matter what hand they’re dealt. Stephen Curry and the Warriors did the same. After a season full of challenges, they pushed to get the 6th seed. After that, they fought their way through the first round, taking out the higher-seeded Kings.

However, they reached their limits against the Lakers. Steve Kerr talked about the Warriors being ‘maxed out‘ and not being a championship team. Draymond Green agreed with the same, and shared how this was not a championship group. When Stephen Curry was asked to share his thoughts about the same, he said,

“We lost, so that’s a hard truth at the end of the journey. It’s not anything you allow yourself to… No competitor believes that until you’re proven that you’re not a championship team, and that’s what getting beat in a playoff series means. Felt it in the 4th quarter with 7 minutes left. Just never really heard this from us before, trying to make sense of losing a series like we did, unless it was the Finals. Gotta accept it, move on, and be better next year.”

The fire is still there, and the Warriors would be looking to get back next season, better prepared to take on the best teams.

What’s next for the Warriors?

This offseason is a crucial one for the Warriors. GM Bob Myers has to make a call on returning to the Warriors or moving on. Secondly, Draymond Green needs to decide if he wants to opt into his $27.4 Million player option. He can opt-out and get another deal with the Dubs or any other team. However, Green talked about being a Warrior for the rest of his life.

Next, a contract extension window is open for Klay Thompson and Steve Kerr. After that, the front office needs to decide how to either get the young players ready for the next season, or maybe make a move. The Warriors need to figure out what they are going to do about Jordan Poole, Moses Moody, and Jonathan Kuminga.

They also would hopefully look to get Donte DiVincenzo back. After all of that, they require a solid backup big for Kevon Looney, and some wings to spread the floor. Lot of decisions to make, but it all starts with what Bob Myers decides.
