Luka Doncic Records 35-Point Triple-Double to Destroy LeBron James and co., Joins Oscar Robertson in Historic Feat

After going on a 7-game win streak entering the new calendar year, the Dallas Mavericks went on a 1-3 record in the next 4 clashes. Beginning their 5-game road trip with back-to-back losses against the Thunder and the Clippers, Luka Doncic and co. were desperately in search of a win.

Tonight, in front of a pack Crypto.Com Arena, the Lakers and the Mavericks produced one action-packed thriller. A contest that witnessed a total of 10 lead changes, 10 ties, and 2 overtimes, ended with Jason Kidd’s boys clinching a huge 119-115 win.

The LA’s All-Star duo of LeBron James and Russell Westbrook had huge performances, recording 24/16/9 and 28/7/5, respectively. However, Doncic easily eclipsed the future Hall-Of-Famer’s outing with a 35-point triple-double of his own.

The Slovenian followed his 43-point, 11-rebound, and 7-assist performance with yet another stat sheet stuffing outing. With BTS rapper Suga present in the crowd, the 23-year-old recorded a 35-point, 14-rebound, and 13-assist triple-double while playing a game-high 52:44 minutes.

With this triple-double, Doncic has now recorded 10+ triple-doubles in four straight seasons. Further, Doncic joins Oscar Robertson as the only other player in NBA history to lodge 8+ triple-doubles in each of their first five campaigns.

 

Out of 56 career triple-doubles, the 6-foot-7 guard has recorded 15+ 30-point triple-doubles, joining the exclusive list of Oscar Robertson, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden.

Doncic’s red-hot form

Luka has been playing some incredible basketball this season. Averaging 34.3 points, 9 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game for the season, the Mavs leader is one of the frontrunners to win the MVP trophy.

However, in the past 10 games, Luka has elevated his game to a different level, putting up a ballistic 40.2/11.2/9.2 while going 8-2. Doncic now becomes the first player since Michael Jordan to average 40 points over a 10-game span at age 23 or younger.
