“Luka Doncic will be the 2021 NBA MVP”: Zach Lowe explains why LeBron James and Giannis won’t be next year’s MVP
Zach Lowe says he believes Luka Doncic will be the NBA’s MVP next season, over LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Brandon Ingram was the NBA’s 2019-20 Most Improved Player of the Year. However, Luka Doncic was not talked about enough in that conversation.
Luka Doncic went from Rookie of the Year to averaging 29 points the following year, while also making a case for MVP for himself. He proved time and time again that he deserved to be mentioned alongside players in the upper echelons of the NBA.
With the 2020 NBA MVP being quite divisive between LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo, the 2021 NBA MVP will be just as divisive, if not more.
Zach Lowe picks Luka Doncic to be his 2021 NBA MVP
ESPN’s Zach Lowe is quite often one of the voters in these MVP discussions. He was a part of the panel that determined the 2015 Finals MVP.
Now, he gives his view on who he believes will be the 2020-21 MVP. He said, “ Luka Doncic. I wanted to go with LeBron but I’m afraid he’ll load manage. Voters will be hesitant to give Giannis a 3rd straight.”

This makes sense as LeBron has begun load managing quite often these past few seasons, so as to preserve himself for the postseason. Giannis will most probably not win another win MVP due to voter fatigue.
Can Luka lead the Mavericks to the NBA Finals?
This could depend on what moves the Mavs look to make to bolster their roster. There are rumors of Buddy Hield and Jrue Holiday to the Mavs.
These moves, coupled with Kristaps Porzingis staying healthy could result in a deep Playoff run for the Dallas Mavericks.
