Working Up To Pulling In $176,265,466, Paul George Credits Kobe Bryant For Mentoring Him: "He Took Me Under His Wing"

Paul George has established himself as an elite player in the NBA over the years. George’s comeback after suffering his horrific foot injury has been an inspiration to many young talents. Brandon Miller is one of the many up-and-coming youngsters who grew up idolizing PG. In fact, PG13 is surprisingly Miller’s pick for the GOAT debate, ahead of MJ and LeBron. On the recent Podcast P episode, the Los Angeles Clippers star revealed being humbled by the Charlotte Hornets rookie’s kind words. During the podcast, George also spoke about his own mentor-mentee relationship with Kobe Bryant and how advice from the late NBA legend has allowed him to become a superstar in the league, securing a four-year, $176,265,466 contract.

Prior to the 2023 Draft, Miller made headlines for picking an unusual name for his GOAT candidate pick. Dismissing LeBron James’ claim to the title, the former Alabama star went on to name Paul George as his GOAT. Moved by the youngster’s high praise, throughout the course of Miller’s appearance on his podcast, George referred to the youngster as his ‘lil bro’. He even spoke about exchanging contacts with the 20-year-old and vouched to be his mentor.

Paul George speaks about Kobe Bryant’s mentorship

During the must-see episode of the podcast, George revealed being at that stage of his career where he wanted to play the role of a mentor to the younger generation. Before explaining how Kobe Bryant was constantly giving him advice, the two-way star stated that he looked forward to the mentorship he can offer to Miller. George said:

“At this point of my career, I look forward to the mentorship and I look forward to helping the next generation. Kobe was somebody that I looked up to and idolized and at the end of his career, the beginning stages of my career of being a household name is when I really got to know him on a personal level. He took me under his wing. He taught me a ton of stuff, was really a teacher. Even competing against him, throughout games, he’s telling me stuff. Off-season, he’s telling me stuff. When he retired and I’m still playing, he was telling me stuff.”

The eight-time All-Star wanted Miller to share a similar mentor-mentee relationship with him as he did with Bryant. Disclosing that he wanted to be there for the rookie, George added, “So use me. Use me as much as you want. Use me as a resource, that’s why I’m here for. I want to help you and every step that you need.”

Miller should love to grab the opportunity of learning from his GOAT. As Kobe did, Paul George will hope to groom Miller into becoming one of the top players in the future.

George reveals his favorite Bryant moment ever

Paul George was a huge fan of Kobe Bryant growing up. Unfortunately, he could only face Bryant five times during his career. However, there was one occasion that PG believes was his most memorable moment with the Black Mamba.

During the 2016 All-Star Game in Toronto, PG and Bryant shared a moment near the scorer’s table. That moment, waiting on the scorer’s table alongside Bryant, was George’s favorite Kobe memory.
