Reflecting on Lance’s second appearance in the preseason game, Cowherd was straight-up ranting about the fact that his shaky start depicts that he is not even fit to be a backup for Kyle Shanahan.

Trey Lance, in his second preseason game, threw for 12 on 18 attempts for 173 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Apparently, that was not enough to impress Colin Cowherd. Adding to his list of why Trey Lance is not the answer for the San Francisco 49ers’ roster, he made a vivid comparison between him and cryptocurrencies.
“Digital Monkeys, cryptocurrency. It is okay to fall for stuff, but don’t double down on it,” Cowherd said. “Trey Lance is not gonna be the starter. He makes too many mistakes. It’s one of those things where it could be somewhere, it’s just not here for this team on the Super Bowl roster. Cause they are very good. Brock Purdy’s gonna get the start because of last year. Darnold’s had the best camp. He’s been great. He’s been absolutely great.”
