HoFer Shannon Sharpe Reveals How the Broncos Robbed Him of a $100K Bonus by Stopping Him Short of the Target
Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe is undisputedly one of the greatest tight ends of all time. Perhaps what makes him an iconic figure in the NFL community, apart from his illustrious career, is his sense of humor. The way he makes everyone laugh around him even at the most tragic of stories is a skill mastered by a rare few. A skill that Sharpe put on display when he appeared on the ‘New Heights’ show.
Sharpe played as a tight end in the NFL from 1990 to 2003. A first-round (192 overall) pick for the Broncos, he spent a combined 11 years in Denver. He even spent a short 2-year tenure with the Baltimore Ravens from 2000 to 2001. Apart from the fact that he was an incredible player, opponents feared his ability to trash talk and get under their skin as well. Truly, an offensive player in every regard.
Sharpe thinks the Broncos actively plotted to deny him his bonus payment
While Sharpe isn’t one to hold grudges, it seems he does remember everything that has ever been done to him. He brought up one such story when he appeared on the ‘New Heights’ show. Talking to Travis and Jason Kelce, he described how he lost a massive bonus by a hairline, and how he knows the Broncos were behind it.
“I had a hundred thousand dollars on my contract, one year. I needed 121 yards to get that 1,000 going into the last game. I had six catches, 116 yards, and two touchdowns, at the half. And didn’t catch another pass,” he said, sending the brothers into a hysterical trance of laughter and disbelief. The entire conversation is hilarious, as they all agree that the Broncos plotted to deny Sharpe those 5 precious yards.
Shannon Sharpe is still a beloved celebrity in the footballing community
While Shannon Sharpe may have stopped playing football, he is still part and parcel of the experience today. His analysis and commentary about games, plays, and players are something avid fans yearn to watch every day. His partnership with fellow analyst Skip Bayless is one that is always a popular show for football fans. However, that partnership seems to be hanging by a thread.
It is no secret that Sharpe and Bayless have been butting heads against each other, though through no fault of Sharpe. In fact, many fans believe Bayless’ careless remarks during the Damar Hamlin incident, and the personal attack on Sharpe to defend Tom Brady, may just be pushing the former TE over the fence. While there is no news about it, will Sharpe soon leave Bayless and go solo? How will that look?
