"I would love to literally just have a pet lion": Dan Campbell Would Give Up an Arm to Win Super Bowl With Detroit Lions

Detroit Lions HC Dan Campbell, who is quickly becoming well known for this electric personality, claimed he is willing to make an interesting sacrifice to win a ring.

Appearing on Bastrool Sports’ “Pardon My Take” podcast today, Campbell had an interesting discussion with the hosts. The trio spoke about topics Campbell’s first press conference and his time as the Dolphins’ interim head coach in 2015.

However, one part of the podcast stuck out as being particularly interesting. Campbell, who arrived in Detroit earlier this year, said he would love to have a pet lion.

Obviously, making a reference to the team’s logo/identity, Campbell imagined the lion would follow him around everywhere. “We just walk around the building, we go out to practice, we’re in 7-on-7s, we’re behind the kicker when he’s kicking,” Campbell joked.

The group then proceeded to brainstorm different ways they would use the hypothetical pet lion. Included in these ideas were using the lions to keep players in bounds, motivate them, and litter the opponents’ sideline on gamedays.

Eventually the conversation moved into Campbell being questioned as to whether or not he would give up an arm to the lion in order to win a Super Bowl in Detroit.

Without hesitation, or even hearing the entire question, the Lions HC answered “Yes. Yes.”

Dan Campbell Says He’d Kick XP Down 14 With 4 minutes Left

In another interesting part of his appearance on the podcast, the hosts put Campbell in a game situation. They asked him if he would go for the 2 point conversion if Detroit was down by 14 with 4 minutes left.

“Without knowing exactly what’s going on. If you just tell me I’m behind 14 – I get the fact if you go for two and get it, you’re sitting real good now,” he said. “There’s no problem, but if you don’t get it, you have got to go for two just to get the tie back.”

However, he did say that he needed more information to make a decision and that he would be open to considering analytics, although the numbers disagree with him in this scenario.
