Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes and Russell Wilson React to Bucs’ Shaquil Barrett Losing His 2-Year Old Daughter to a Tragic Drowning Incident

The NFL players are undoubtedly part of a tight-knit community. No matter the feuds on the field, in the end, they all respect each other as formidable opponents and hard-working players. A loss for one is often seen as a loss for the others as well. This is a feeling that has been put forward once again, with the tragic news of Buccaneers’ linebacker Shaquil Barrett losing his 2-year-old daughter earlier today.

The Bucs broke the news through an official statement on Twitter. “Today’s tragic news is heartbreaking for all members of the Buccaneers family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna, and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time,” the Bucs said in their statement. “…We offer our support and love as they begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Arrayah.”

NFL players chime in with condolences for the Barrett family

The close-knit nature of the NFL players’ community was on full display after the tragic news broke on social media. Tom Brady, Shaq’s former teammate, responded through a story on his Instagram. While players such as Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, and other former and current players took to Twitter to express their sorrow.

The Tampa Police Department said that they do not suspect any foul play in the incident. “It is not believed to be suspicious in nature at this time, but a purely accidental and tragic incident,” they said in a statement. According to official reports, officers responded to a call at Barrett’s Tampa home at around 9:30 am. Following this, Arrayah was taken to the hospital, where attempts to save her did not succeed.

Will this tragic accident affect Shaquil Barrett as he heads into a new season?

Losing one’s child at such a young age will be devastating for anyone, no matter who they are. As such, one can expect Shaq to be in heartwrenching pain during this tragic time. Sometimes, people can take a long while to recover from the loss. Which could mean that Barrett faces a hard time getting back to life as usual.

The Bucs’ star O-Lineman is a 2x Pro Bowler, which means he is a vital part of the Bucs’ offense. While there is no news about Shaq’s status, it will not be much of a stretch if he decides to take a while before getting back to football. Though the start of the season is quite a while away, the next few months will decide Shaq’s decision. Will Shaq decide to play when the time comes?
