Washington Football Team Roster : Head coach gives injury update on Quarterback Alex Smith
Washington Football Team Roster : Alex Smith suffered a catastrophic injury that most believed would end his career. That he’s even considered close to a comeback is a great story.
Ron Rivera the head coach stated that Alex Smith can play Quarterback for Redskins if he recovers from his devastating knee injury that wiped out the entire 2019 season.
Furthermore Rivera went on to say Rivera via the Washington Post’s Nicki Jhabvala, “If Alex is healthy and continues to get healthy and we do activate him, he’s going to be in the throes of this competition. It’s going to unfold I think very nicely for us as a football team.”
“This competition is only going to make you better, it’s going to push the young guys as well. So I just feel really good about what we’re going to be doing as we start going forward. It’ll be a very challenging situation to make sure everybody’s reps are equitable and their competition is the same.”
As far as the NFL is concerned Alex smith remains on PUP list as he is able to perform and is still in rehab.
Alex Smith Injury Update
Rivera further goes on to say that if Alex Smith is cleared to play almost two years after a severely broken leg, he would be given every opportunity to beat out Haskins for the starting quarterback job.
Rivera kept mentioning to the world that Alex Smith could play quarterback if he was in healthy form, Two weeks ago, Rivera noted that Smith would dive into the competition if healthy.
Last week, he said he could “envision” the veteran QB play. To all Washington fans who really hope Alex smith makes a great comeback it would really be amazing and everyone would be in awe to watch the veteran play.
But Dwayne Haskins would not play quarterback if Smith returns to the field Rivera said If Rivera is thinking primarily about building his team for the future, Haskins will be his pick. But if Rivera wants to win right now, a healthy Smith may be a better option than Haskins. No one should be surprised if Smith ends up starting in Washington this season.
