Will Anderson Jr. NFL Draft: Alabama LB Narrates the Tragic Tale of Losing His Biggest Supporter During Freshman Year

Many players who are considered first-round picks went through pain while they played in college and prepared for the NFL Draft. Their journey had been one that took a lot of hard work and perseverance. Some players even lost their loved ones in the process. One such prospect is the linebacker at the University of Alabama, Will Anderson Jr.

Anderson won the 2020 All-American Bowl and committed to play college football at Alabama. As the young player was making his way into the world of sports, he enjoyed the never-ending support of his grandmother.

Will Anderson Jr. recounts precious moments with his grandmother

In a recent interaction, Anderson fondly talked about his grandmother, whom he loved unconditionally. She tried to attend almost all of his games. The duo spent a lot of their time together. The LB also shared that he used to excitedly look forward to meeting her after practice.

However, when he was in his freshman year, Will received the heartbreaking news of his grandmother’s demise. It was his sisters who drove to Alabama to give him the surprising news. It was even more shocking as he did not know his sisters were visiting him to deliver the sad news.

“I was in disbelief. At first, freshman year was hard. I always break down crying while we working out sometimes and I just stop and pause. But I kind of use it as a motivation. I knew how much she loved me, and I knew how much she loved the sport I played,” he stated.

Raising yourself up from situations like those is difficult, but not impossible. It’s even more impressive that he used his grandmother’s demise as motivation and became a strong player.
