NFL Week 15: Kansas City Chiefs vs. New Orleans Saints, Potential Super Bowl Preview?

NFL Week 15: The Kansas City Chiefs will face off against the New Orleans Saints in a potential Super Bowl Preview. Drew Brees is expected to start Week 15.

This game is set to feature two of the best teams in football right now. The Chiefs currently hold the number one seed in the AFC with a 12-1 record while the Saints are second in the NFC at 10-3.

It is easy to see why this game is so monumental for both sides. For the Chiefs, it gives them a chance to pull away from the 11-2 Pittsburgh Steelers.

Meanwhile, for the Saints, a win would help them remain competitive for a chance at the number one seed. Currently, the Packers own that distinction with an 11-3 record.

Interesting Quarterback Lineup

When Brees went down with a rib injury, Taysom Hill filled in marvelously. In the four games that Brees sat out, Hill went 3-1 as a starter with his only loss being a stunner to the lowly Eagles.

Head Coach Sean Payton has said that Drew Brees will start Sunday, but the Saints are always ready to use Hill in gadget plays or read-option scenarios. Here is what Payton had to say:

”We have a number of personnel groupings to give us some flexibility and we’ll go from there”

On the other side of the football, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will look to have strong outing to further his case for the MVP award. Mahomes is having yet another phenomenal season passing the ball, and if he can play well on Sunday against a Super Bowl contender, the MVP award may be all his.

What’s interesting to consider is that the New Orleans Saints were in the mix for drafting Mahomes in 2017. However, they held the 11th pick, while the Chiefs traded up to number 10 to steal Mahomes away.

However, it may have been unlikely that the Saints even picked Mahomes considering Brees was still on the roster and playing well.

Mahomes even said that he had a good workout with the Chiefs ”but I didn’t sense they were going to pick me with Drew still there. … They got a great player with Marshon, so I’m sure they’re still happy with that.”

Travis Kelce’s Record Setting Year

While Mahomes has been having his great season, Kelce has quietly been on pace to break a few records too. Kelce currently only needs 128 yards to break George Kittle’s record for most receiving yards by a tight end in a single season.

Additionally, with 1,250 yards on the season, Kelce currently is in first place in the NFL in receiving yards. If he can maintain that, he will be the first tight end to lead the NFL in yardage.

To add on, with 10 more catches Kelce would also become the first tight end to have multiple 100-reception seasons.

NFL Week 15 Score Prediction: Chiefs vs. Saints

With Brees set to start, the Saints offense should see a boost in production. Further, after a disappointing loss last week they should be hungry for a victory.

However, Brees may have to shake off some rust while the Chiefs are red-hot right now. That may be the difference maker here as both teams are obviously incredibly good.

This game could be a shootout, but ultimately the Chiefs will take this one 27-24.
