Roger Federer Warns Murray That His Reign As World No 1 Is Under Threat
Roger Federer is stepping up his preparations for Wimbledon with a hard fought victory over Mischa Zverve in the ongoing Gerry Weber Open at Halle. Zverve put on a great fight but ultimately lost out to Federer 6-7(4-7), 4-6. The Swiss master spoke to the press in which Federer warns Andy Murray that his reign as World No 1 is under threat over the summer.
“Andy was tired after getting to No1 at the end of last year and then has been struggling with injuries,” said Federer.

I think the second part of the season will be really crucial for Andy, and Novak [Djokovic] as well. I think the second half of the season is going to be really, really interesting,” added the Swiss.
Murray has had a terrible season so far, with his nadir coming in the defeat to world number 90 Thompson. Murray embarrassingly lost 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 at the Queen’s club as his 14-match unbeaten streak on grass came to a shuddering end.
It has a incredible turnaround for Murray, who just six months ago had scaled the tennis rankings for the first time. But now he in the midst of his worst run as professional player, while his chances of winning at Wimbledon have become dropped dramatically.
Federer, who will be looking to add another Wimbledon title to his collection, will no doubt fancy his chances this year. Although Nadal has just won a incredible tenth French Open title, the Spanish has admitted that his performances on grass have been pretty poor over the last few years.
Djokovic is also struggling with both confidence and form, making Federer a dark horse for this year’s Wimbledon title. You would be a brave man to bet against the King of Wimbeldon from reigning supreme again!
