Leon Edwards rejects Stephen Thompson’s challenge, and suggests him to accept the fight with Khamzat Chimaev.
Leon Edwards, who is lately been busy calling out some of the fellow welterweights, has rejected the call out of the No.5 ranked fighter in the weight class, Stephen Thompson. Edwards is currently on a 8-match win streak, and is in quest for a title fight, thus wants to reach at the top of the pecking order, and therefore he is seemingly only interested in a fight that can bolster his chances to get to the top.
While on one hand he has laid out a challenge in front of Jorge Masvidal, Colby Covington, Nick Diaz, and Gilbert Burns, on the other he is not eager to accept a fight with Thomson, as apparently he presumes a fight with him won’t help his cause, since Wonderboy has lost three out of his last five fights.
Stephen Thompson, 37, who took to Twitter to express his interest in fighting with Leon Edwards, received a straight up rejection from the 29-year-old.

I may be new to this but it’s definitely me…my tweet game is better than I though lol. Whelp I guess the gym is where you’ll be “staying”! Like you said “nobody” wants to fight you…except me but that ain’t good enough for ya. Maybe we’ll see you in 2021! #StruckANerve pic.twitter.com/fE47uNewd7

Stephen, I respect you as a fighter but your 2-3 in your last 5.
In the politest way possible just fuck off and fight Chimaev, good luck— Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards (@Leon_edwardsmma) October 6, 2020
According to reports, UFC is targeting a fight between Stephen Thompson and Khamzat Chimaev, but Thomson has conveyed that he does not want to share ring space with an unranked fighter.
