Khabib Nurmagomedov Recollects The Time When Justin Gaethje Came To His Aid

Khabib Nurmagomedov recollects the time when Justin Gaethje helped him cut substantial amount of weight. The two lightweights will headline UFC 254, On October 24.

Khabib Nurmagomedov, who has been a supreme in-ring performer is also famous for his benign demeanor outside of the Octagon. The Russian recently acknowledged Justin Gaethje for helping him cut weight before a UFC Fight Night Event. Nurmagomedov recalls how on the day of the weigh-ins still 2.5 kilograms were required to be cut, and it was Justin Gaethje who assisted and helped him reach the defined mark. It was 2016, Khabib was given 9 days notice to prepare for his fight against Darrell Horcher, where the 28-0, registered a thumping victory via. TKO in the second Round.

Khabib Nurmagomedov Recollects How Justin Gaethje Once Helped Him

In a recent press address, Khabib Nurmagomedov stated “I’ve known Gaethje for a while, since he fought in WSOF. I remember in 2016 when I was returning after I had three surgeries in a row. When Tony Ferguson got injured and I got Darrell Horcher on nine days’ notice. Justin helped me cut weight. I had a tough weight cut. He helped me cut the last 2.5 kilograms the morning before the weigh-ins.”

Khabib threw light on the monumental challenge, in the name of Weight-cut that fighters face regularly ,“I remember I dropped the last kilogram in the hot bath. You might not know how we cut weight – you spend 15 minutes in a hot bath, then you’re wrapped in a towel and go back in. You do that three, four times. He helped take me out of the bath because there weren’t enough people around. Islam Makhachev was cutting weight. So was Omari Akhmedov. He continued “We were all fighting the same night. You need a couple of people around you and Justin was there for me, so I have no ill will toward him.

Fast Forward 4 years, now both the fighters are set to square off for the UFC Lightweight Championship, and unlike 2016, Gaethje in no condition would help Nurmagomedov. The buildup for the fight is also picking ignition, and both professionals in an indirect way have expressed their intentions, thus leaving infinite wait for enthusiasts, who would wish that October 24 comes quick.
