Following the cancellation of Khamzat Chimaev Vs. Leon Edwards, Khamzat’s team has revealed why the fighter pulled out from the January 20 event.

Khamzat Chimaev Vs. Leon Edwards was initially the targetted main event of UFC Vegas 17 but, Leon Edwards’ positive Corona test forced a deferral. On account of it being a much-anticipated bout, the fighters received a swift rebooking and January 20 was set as the scheduled date. But, as the year is about to draw to a close, Khamzat Chimaev is ruled out from the card.

While Covid-19 was the factor that caused the fight to bounce on the first occasion, it turns out this time it has Victimized Chimaev.

According to MMA Junkie, Khamzat’s Team has confirmed that the fighter has pulled out because of the complications of Covid-19. Further Khamzat’s representatives have revealed that the Swede picked the deadly virus in early December and though has largely recuperated but the latest X-ray results did not show a convincing picture. Thus, the doctors did not declare him fit and hence the fight with Leon Edwards is off.

After incessant curtailments in fight cards throughout the year, perhaps the Covid-19 disease made Khamzat Vs. Edwards its last prey of the year. Now, with Leon Edwards eager to still compete, there are major chances that UFC will find a replacement for Chimaev to fill the vacant main event spot.

As Leon Edwards wants to push for the title shot, the possibility of this fight happening soon would be bleak. However, the fighters’ next few results will matter most and will decide the ultimate destiny of this much-awaited Welterweight contest.
