UFC Fight Night: Carla Esparza VS. Marina Rodriguez Scrapped Over COVID-19 Concerns
Carla Esparza VS. Marina Rodriguez is scrapped from the July 15, UFC Fight Night 172 event, over COVID-19 Concerns.
UFC Fight Night Event is impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic. With Carla Esparza VS. Marina Rodriguez becoming the second fixture to go down the drain after Anderson Dos Santos was removed from the bout due to a positive COVID-19 test.
Why The Contest Got Scrapped?
The Strawweight match up was all set to take place at Yas Island (Fight Island), Abu Dhabi, when one of the persons from Marina Rodriguez team was found positive. Which ultimately caused the removal of the fight, even though Rodriguez’s test came out to be negative.
Carla Esparza VS. Marina Rodriguez, Who was the Favorite?
It would had been an even contest, had Corona not spoilt the play. Marina Rodriguez who has an undefeated 12-0 MMA record to her name would have had fired on all cylinders. Against Carla Esparza, who is a former UFC Champion and has a 3-match unbeaten streak.
Since the fight would not take place now, one can only wonder who was the favourite, and who might had won in this cancelled contest.
However, as reported by MMA Fighting additional sources confirmed the UFC will postpone the match to a later date instead of looking for a new opponent for Carla Esparza that night.
Earlier, Anderson dos Santos who was expected to fight Jack Shore, in the same UFC event, was taken out. Leaving Shore without any opponent. And no replacement has been finalized yet.
