Indian Cricket has been going through some turmoil on the inside. The Kohli-Kumble spat has left everyone bewildered, as their relationship looked like a match made in heaven, with Kohli the dominant, aggressive one and Kumble the calm, composed guiding force. But how many times have we seen ego clashes ruining an endearing and special relationship?

Apparently Kumble and Kohli have been at loggerheads with respect to team selection, training methods and even regaridng the salaries of players. Two leaders don’t essentially have to agree on everything, but when a healthy argument turns into one of distaste, it is time for one of them to make way. And it looks like Kumble could be the one bearing the brunt of this spat.

The Cricket Advisory Committee consisting of Ganguly, Laxman and Tendulkar would be selecting the next coach of the country and while even Kumble would be sitting for interviews, it looks like Kohli doesn’t want him to continue.

According to ‘The Telegraph’, Virat met with the CAC, BCCI CEO Rahul Johri and BCCI General Manger Amitabh Choudhary to make it very clear that he did not want Kumble to continue as Head Coach.

The Telegraph’s source has said that Kumble is most likely to be sacked.

“Kohli is very clear about where he stands vis-a-vis Kumble. It seems the relationship is beyond the repair stage, at least from Kohli’s side. However, the CAC will now meet Kumble and see if a patch-up is possible,” the source said.

“Kumble’s track record as head coach is almost without a blemish. How does one remove him? On what grounds? To what extent should the captain have a say? Also, can we have a situation where Kohli, no matter how successful and brilliant he is, gets the complete charge? Big questions need to be settled,” the source added.

It would be very hard for the BCCI and the CAC to look beyond Kumble, but if Kohli has been given the power to influence the BCCI’s decision, they might as well listen to him and bring in someone who gels well with Kohli’s ideology.
