It is sheer unfortune that Jasprit Bumrah injured his left hand on the final delivery of the 1st T20I against Ireland and has been ruled out of the England T20I series due to a fractured finger.

The Indian team will certainly miss the services of Jaspit Bumrah as he has an unusual action which can surprise most batsmen in the world. Moreover, many of the English batsmen have not faced Bumrah for quite a while now and it would have been a test for them to pick him right away.

Surprising pace

Bumrah has a slingy action which allows him a long lever to the ball. Hence, Bumrah with the help of his wrist can impart more pace to the ball as compared to usual bowlers.

The Gujarat pacer may not look the fastest bowler at first sight but has this tendency of consistently hitting over 140 km per hours.  If need be, he can even cross the 145 kmph mark. Bumrah bowls a heavy ball and most batsmen would tell you that the 24-year-old has the capacity of hurrying you up.

Death bowling

The biggest advantage that Jasprit Bumrah has is that he is brilliant at the death. Not many bowlers in the Indian setup are good at this facet.

If one Indian batsman gets injured or is out of form, there is a long line of batsmen who can replace him quite efficiently. However, when it comes to the bowling unit, except Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah, there not many bowlers in India who can not only contain the batsmen in the death overs but also take wickets.

Replacements

Umesh Yadav who had an exciting IPL and performed well in the one-off Test against Afghanistan as well, may get a game in Bumrah’s absence. Siddarth Kaul can also be played but Umesh’s chances look brighter.

Deepak Chahar, who has been called as Bumrah’s replacement for the England T20I series, has bowled beautifully in the ongoing tri-series against England Lions and Windies A. The CSK pacer is already in England on the India A tour and will join the team shortly.

Respite for English batsmen

One thing is for sure, English batsmen would be dancing with joy when they would have heard the news of Bumrah’s injury. With the talent that Bumrah possesses, he has the capacity to trouble even the best of batsmen in the world.

Now, the England batsmen will not have to face the awkward bounce of Bumrah first up nor would they have to battle with the crafty slower ones and on-point yorkers in the death overs. This will present them with a chance of scoring those 15-20 extra runs in the death overs which can prove to game changing in the context of the series.
