The Undertaker shoots on former WWE Champions

“I don’t buy this as my champion”: The Undertaker shoots on former WWE Champions and reveals why he hasn’t been able to buy into some of them.

Wrestling as a business has evolved over the years. You don’t need to be over 6’5, 300 pounds to win the World Title anymore. While this has allowed the talented but smaller wrestlers to win the big one, this has also caused a lot of debate among the fans.

Many believe that talent and hard work needs to be rewarded. There are others however, who believe the champions need to have a certain look in order for them to appear believable to the audience. It seems that the Undertaker agrees with the latter on the subject.

“It doesn’t necessarily have to be a big guy big guy, but we have stretched the realms of reality sometimes with some of our champions,” The Undertaker told Yahoo. “When you see some of the guys that they have to work with, it’s like, OK, I get it, we’re sports entertainment — BUT. My whole goal when I went to the ring, I don’t care if you’re smart, not smart, whatever, when I’m in the ring I want people thinking, ‘This dude’s legit.’ And if I hit somebody, I want people in the front row going, ‘No, dude, he hit him. I don’t care what happened in the match before, he just lit him up. This is on.’

“So, it’s hard because we’re kind of starting to get a little bit of an influx of big guys, but it’s just kind of where– because there’s so much new talent. You can’t put the title on a guy just because he’s big. And back in the day, man, we had tons of big guys that could go and could carry it and do that.

“So, it’s more of a guy that kind of fits in the middle of the road. A guy that you’ll believe working with a big guy but can also work with a little guy. But there are certain guys that have had — I won’t bring in names — but it’s just like, yeah, I just don’t buy it. I don’t buy this as my champion. And it’s not any fault of their own, other than they’re physically not able to match up against certain people.”

Both of WWE’s world champions are men of intimidating shape and size. In fact, the last 3 holders of both titles have imposing physiques. Brock Lesnar, Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton for the WWE title and Braun Strowman, Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns with the Universal Championship. Goldberg is another example of a ripped big man, who held the title before Strowman.

While the Universal title has been more consistent with its holders sizes, the WWE title has seen a lot of variety. For every McIntyre, Lesnar and Orton, you’ve also had a Kofi, AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
