Some great news for all WWE maniacs in India! WWE is coming to India in December! The WWE in the pursuit of going global has opened its horizons to new countries through live events and tours. WWE will be coming to India now to expand its already huge fan base. Currently, India is the third largest market for WWE after USA and UK.
In a supposedly Raw only event, the entire RAW roster will be travelling to New Delhi, India on December 6th and 7th. The venue will be the same arena that hosted the event last time around too, the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium at Delhi. The WWE had hosted their first event in India in the last 13 years.
Current promotions in India
The meteoric rise of the current WWE champion of Indian descent, Jinder Mahal is well known. Taking nothing away from ‘The Modern Maharaja’ and his hard work, this step was taken primarily to increase the fan base in India. Jinder Mahal defeated Randy Orton at Backlash in May and has managed to hold on to the title ever since.
Moreover, the introduction of Hindi commentators to WWE pay-per views has also helped in propagating the WWE in a desi flavour. A local weekly series called WWE Sunday Dhamaal also begun airing in June. This provides Indian fans with insightful recaps of the current weeks’ Raw and Smackdown Live episodes.
A great step towards strengthening WWE’s brand
It will indeed be a spectacle to see the WWE back in India. Apart from Jinder Mahal, the rise of new wrestlers Lovepreet Sangha and Satender in NXT is also proof of WWE’s interest in India. We also saw the rendition of the Indian national anthem and Bhangra dances as part of Mahal’s championship celebratio.
It was the debut of Kavita Devi in the recently concluded Mae Young Classic which built intrigue among Indian fans. She also created history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to compete in the WWE.
So Indian fans, buckle up your seat belts as WWE is coming to India in December!
