Big E reveals that the New Day were buried by a lot of people backstage

Big E reveals that the New Day were buried by a lot of people backstage both behind their backs and even to their faces when they first formed.

A lot of wrestlers have been in tag team or a faction before transitioning to singles action. Shawn Michaels was in ‘The Rockers’, Edge and Christian were in the Brood, Jeff and Matt Hardy were the Hardy Boys, even Roman Reigns found his feet alongside Seth Rollins and Jon Moxley fka Dean Ambrose through the Shield.

The New Day however, have stuck through thick and thin. Unlike the groups mentioned above, the trio did not split up even when one of them enjoyed a solo run of a lifetime. Kofi’s WWE title victory at Wrestlemania was celebrated by all three of them as if they all had won it.

It is now Big E’s turn to embark on a singles run. The group however, is far from finished. The WWE have made the smart decision by giving the other two wrestlers a proper reason to keep them from TV while pursuing Big E’s solo ambitions.

Given New Day’s success and popularity it is understandable why the promotion wants them to remain together. However, Big E revealed that this wasn’t always the case and they would constantly be buried backstage when they had just formed.

The former Intercontinental Champion recently opened up on how very few people believed in them. Speaking on WWE’s show, Talking Smack, he said:

“These were the same conversations we were having when we were starting as a trio. When people said, ‘No, the way you’re behaving now, as a faction, does not work. It will not work.’ And we proved people wrong. We proved that we could forge our own path.

“I’m letting you know, I understand where you’re coming from,” Big E said. “I understand that this has always been the formula in wrestling. This has always been the formula in WWE. Now, when it’s your time to step up, you have to be serious. You have to get rid of the shorts. I understand that.

“We’ve been able to forge a path on our own, to me, that is unique.” he continued. “So many people buried us to our faces. So many people buried us behind our backs in 2014, and said ‘This will not work! It’s going to fail. You’re going to be gone. This will not work!’

“We were told that time and time again, but we did it on our own. I’m so proud of that, we stepped out on our own, that we did what we felt right to us. That we trusted our gut. We trusted our intuition, we said, Kofi, Woods, E, we’re gonna do us because we believe in us as a trio.”

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
