Jim Cornette reveals why Hulk Hogan had a black eye at Wrestlemania IX

Jim Cornette reveals why Hulk Hogan had a black eye at Wrestlemania IX. The WWE legend caused a lot of raised eyebrows at the pay per view.

Wrestlemania IX is odd for a few reasons. This was the first time in 5 years, Hulk Hogan wasn’t booked in the main event of Wrestlemania. He was the main event in 7 of the first 8 and even though he wasn’t the main event at Wrestlemania IV, he did make sure to make his presence felt.

Like Wrestlemania IV, Hogan hijacked the main event. Instead of handing the WWF Championship to the winner however, this time Hogan challenged the champion and won the title for himself. There were two questions on a lot of people’s mind that night. What just happened? And why did Hogan have a black eye?

We already have the answer to the first question. Backstage politics. We also have the answer to the second question; Hulk Hogan’s version of what happened. Now we have another version of the events that led to the black eye.

Hulk Hogan had previously claimed that he hurt himself in a jet ski accident a day prior to WrestleMania. While speaking with AXS TV in 2011, he revealed that he broke his orbital socket and required more than 100 stitches under his skin.

He also added that he told the commission doctor that the injury was part of a storyline involving Randy Savage in order to receive the clearance to compete. Jim Cornette claims that Randy Savage was indeed part of the story but not in the manner that Hogan described.

“Savage found out that Elizabeth had run off to Hogan’s house and was staying with Linda [Hulk Hogan’s ex-wife] because Linda and Elizabeth were friends, and Hogan didn’t tell Savage that she was there, which is why when Savage confronted him with that, he confronted him by punching him in the f***ing eye. And that’s why Hogan had a black eye at WrestleMania 9.” Cornette revealed on the latest episode of Jim Cornette’s Drive Thru.

Archie is a WWE and UFC Editor/Author at the SportsRush. Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
