Kurt Angle recalls backstage brawl with Eddie Guerrero

Kurt Angle recalls backstage brawl with fellow WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero. The incident took place after an in-ring segment on SmackDown.

Kurt Angle and Eddie Guerrero were good friends with each other. There was an incident once however, when the two got into an argument backstage that eventually devolved into a fight. As you would expect, being an amatuer wrestler, Angle came out on top and Eddie had an interesting comment about why he tried to takedown an olympic gold medalist.

The WWE Hall of Famer discussed the details of the backstage altercation during his appearance on the Hannibal TV. He revealed that Eddie was not happy with the way he was handled during a beatdown segment and took matters in his hand once they got to the back.

Kurt Angle recalls backstage brawl with Eddie Guerrero

“We were in the ring and we had to get heat on him in the ring. That means beat him up. My gang of guys, that means Luther Reigns and Mark Jindrak and myself, I didn’t touch Eddie but they did. I guess they laid into him pretty hard and he came backstage. He was mad and he approached me and said, “Why did you lay into me like that? You beat the cr*p out of me.”

“He actually used a lot more swear words laughs and I said “Eddie, I didn’t touch you” and he said I did and he pushed me. I said “Don’t push me again” and I pushed him back. He tried to double-leg me and it wasn’t that hard to fight him off, me being an amateur wrestler. It was pretty easy and I put him in a chokehold and started choking him out and then Big Show broke it up. Thank god, because I loved Eddie and I didn’t want to fight Eddie.”

Kurt added that 10 minutes later JBL asked Eddie why he tried to fight an Olympic Goldmedalist and the late WWE Superstar had a gem of a reply.

“The crazy thing is, 10 minutes later, JBL goes to Eddie and says “why would you double-leg an Olympic gold medallist?” and Eddie says, ‘Because I’m a dumbass,’ so it turned out to be pretty funny but it was pretty intense.”

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
