It’s been months since CM Punk’s expletive speech during the AEW All Out post-show media scrum followed by violence that ensued backstage. However, Punk’s actions remain indelible and always pop up for discussion in interviews. The former AEW World Champion has not been seen since on AEW TV. Reportedly, AEW is in talks about buying out CM Punk’s contract.
If and when that happens, WWE may bring CM Punk back. We still don’t know if Triple H will be willing to take that call but, many believe that bringing Punk back and putting him against Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 39 could be a major main event. However, former WWE general manager Eric Bischoff feels otherwise.
Eric Bischoff feels hiring CM Punk is bad for business for WWE
In an interview with WrestlingNews.Co, Eric Bischoff was asked if he thought hiring CM Punk would be a good idea for WWE. Bischoff vehemently stated that CM Punk “sh*t the bed” and should not be hired by WWE.
According to him, when Punk first arrived in AEW, he brought the brash and unapologetic character that he was famous for in WWE, which initially got a pop from the fans, however, he lost his “mystique” over time in AEW.
Eric Bischoff: “For CM Punk to conduct himself in the manner in which he did, I think it left a bad taste…why would anybody want to hire a guy that’s willing to, live, publicly disparage the guy that’s writing him a check every week?”

“I don’t think it would be. I think CM Punk shit the bed. When Tony Khan brought CM Punk into AEW, he still had that mystique, the pipe bomb mystique,” Bischoff said. “Over a very short period of time, that mystique began to just dissipate. It was like letting the air out of the balloon a little bit more each and every week.”

Bischoff further added that CM Punk’s arrival in AEW raised the ratings only for a week after which it started to “free fall back down to pre-Punk levels”.
He also pointed out how fans went from being excited about CM Punk to going “nothing special”. Furthermore, Bischoff took a dig at Punk for leaving a bad taste in the mouths of wrestling fans as well as AEW President Tony Khan.
CM Punk’s heated past with Eric Bischoff
CM Punk and Eric Bischoff have been seen engaging in a war of words in the past. Earlier this year in May, Punk took to his social media to take shots at Eric Bischoff calling him and other old-timer wrestlers “carny dipsh*ts” after Bischoff criticized AEW for its failure to increase ratings.
Wrestling twitter needs to stop amplifying all the old head bad faith bad take carny dipshits. They had their moment in the sun. Let them die in the dark with their ego podcasts. Quote me. pic.twitter.com/ryMcGSW10u

Ok: “So, I’m not Hogan or Savage. Daniel Bryan and Adam Cole, they’re not The Outsiders, I see the parallels, but this is totally different. I’ll go ahead and say it and people can quote me and they’ll be p*ssed off about it, but to me, this is bigger.”

Bischoff even called CM Punk the biggest “financial flop” of AEW. The former WCW boss then took to his Twitter to compare AEW ratings since Punk’s arrival to his stay in the company.
“Let’s look at what Punk has delivered since debuting at AEW: August Rampage: 1.1mm viewers. Now? Lucky to hit 500k,” he Tweeted.
Bischoff continued his beef by calling CM Punk lame for thinking he was a bigger deal than Nash, Hall, and Randy Savage. As noted, we don’t know if Triple H will hire Punk after his official release from AEW.
However, if he does, he may infuriate a lot of wrestling personalities who refuse to work with Punk because of his marred reputation.
