Davie Police Drop Battery Case Against Jets QB Geno Smith
The battery investigation into New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith has been closed with no charges filed, the Davie, Florida Police Department confirmed on Tuesday.
The investigation stemmed from a June 21 incident in which a woman identifying herself as Smith’s ex-girlfriend called 911 and accused him of battery at his home. No arrest was made at the scene.

“No further investigative steps can be reasonably taken with the information presently available. Any future investigative action is contingent on additional information or evidence being brought forward,” according to the supplemental case report obtained by ESPN.
Details of the Case
Officers responded to Smith’s residence on June 21 after the woman called 911. She was identified in the incident report as Smith’s manager, whose duties included care of his children.
In the call, she alleged she had been assaulted. She subsequently posted a video to Instagram showing a dispute with Smith and stated on camera that he had attacked her.
According to the original incident report, Smith had two scratches on the right side of his face and a knot on the back of his head. The woman sustained a small cut on her right hand and a bruise on her left arm.
Investigators noted that “the inability to review surveillance footage, conflicting stories, and lack of independent witnesses” prevented them from determining the primary aggressor. Smith, 35, has not publicly responded to the allegations, and the Jets have not commented.
Police Confirmation and Case Closure
The closure ends the active criminal investigation, though it does not preclude future action if new evidence surfaces.
The outcome follows a pattern seen in cases where conflicting accounts and limited independent evidence prevent investigators from establishing probable cause.
In a similar case, ex-pro bowler Marcellus Wiley is facing accusations of domestic battery. His wife, Annemarie Wiley, alleges years of abuse dating back more than a decade, including multiple allegations of rape and physical assault.
Wiley denies the charges, but has since been hit with a restraining order. A judge granted the order, requiring Wiley to stay away from both her and their three children until a July 24 hearing determines whether a longer-term protective order should remain in place.
Smith’s Status With the Jets and the NFL’s Separate Review
Smith was reacquired by the Jets in a March trade with the Las Vegas Raiders and was immediately named the team’s starter for 2026. The closure of the police investigation removes immediate legal uncertainty heading into training camp.
However, potential NFL discipline under the personal conduct policy remains a separate matter. The NFL spokesman said the club has been in contact with the league.
The league’s review operates independently of law enforcement outcomes, meaning Smith’s standing with the Jets is legally clear but not yet fully resolved at the league level.
